Client: Vestavia City Board of Education
Area: 3,200 sq. ft.
Scope: Addition-new central lobby, reception area, six offices, staff workroom, filing room, and lower-level board room with adjacent kitchen. Renovation of exiting offices and conference room
This addition to the original Board of Education Central Office was constructed in conjunction with the community education building. The design was conceived as an addition that would match the original building and would harmonize with the adjacent Vestavia community center and West Elementary School.
The lower-level board room is designed as a multi-purpose space for receptions and staff meetings, in addition to board meetings. It can be closed off from other portions of the building and entered directly from the outside. The office additions are grouped according to staff functions to create efficient inter-office relationships. The building accommodates a staff of ten, including the superintendent, two assistant superintendents, the custodian of funds, the accounts payable and accounts receivable, the exceptional child administrator, the chief dietician, and two clerical workers.
A major project requirement was that existing offices would remain in full operation during the addition and renovations. The design method employed allowed the full completion of the addition before any work began within the existing building, permitting continuous operation of all functions.
